PRESS RELEASE - Ministers Jevtić and Rakić visited the monastery of Visoki Dečani

Visoki Decani, July 7, 2020

"We will not allow violations of laws and court decisions, and we will strongly advocate wherever it is necessary to protect the property of the Visoki Decani monastery and the entire Serbian Orthodox Church." Shrines are a gathering place for Serbs and a pillar of the rest and survival of the Serbian people, which is why the representatives of the Serbian List will not agree to any compromises in their protection, "said ministers in the Kosovo Government and representatives of the Serbian List, President Goran Rakic and Vice President Dalibor Jevtic during the visit to the monastery of Visoki Decani and providing support to the monastics in overcoming difficult moments in the fight to preserve the monastery property.

Ракић и Јевтић, су током сусрета са игуманом манастра Високи Дечани оцем Савом Јањићем, рекли да се само јединством може очувати идентитет Срба и стати на пут неспоровођењу закона које влада у случају манастира Високи Дечани.

During the meeting with the abbot of the Visoki Decani monastery, Father Sava Janjic, Rakic and Jevtic said that only unity can preserve the identity of Serbs and stand in the way of non-implementation of the law in the case of the Visoki Decani monastery.

From Decani, they called on the representatives of international organizations to react more decisively and prevent such treatment of the pearl of both Serbian and world cultural heritage, which is visited by tourists from all over the world.

Father Sava Janjic also confirmed that today's visit is very important, emphasizing that the unity of Serbs is something that is most important in these moments.

In June, the Serbian List condemned the opening ceremony of the road near the Visoki Decani monastery zone, which was attended by members of the Kosovo government, while Minister for Communities and Returns Dalibor Jevtic pointed out that selective implementation of court decisions and laws threatens the rule of law.

She also expressed a clear position that the construction of the transit-highway Decani-Plav would be a flagrant violation of the law on special protected zones and that it is unacceptable. This also applies to any similar project that would endanger the authentic natural environment around the monastery of Visoki Decani, which is regulated by law.

In May 2016, after 16 years of disputes over ownership of monastery land in the municipality of Decani, the Constitutional Court of Kosovo issued a decision confirming the previous decision of the Supreme Court from 2012 on confirming the ownership of the monastery Visoki Decani over 24 hectares of disputed land. The local authorities in Decani have not implemented this decision for four years.
