Construction of 49 houses for returnees and IDPs completed
Pristina, September 2, 2020
Although the Corona virus pandemic negatively affected regular social processes, slowed them down or even completely disabled them, the Ministry for Communities and Return, with the support of its partners from the European Union, continued to build new houses for returnees and internally displaced persons.
Of the planned construction of 62 houses this year and 10 approved last year, from the beginning of the year until now, technical acceptance has been performed for 49 houses, of which 255 members from various non-majority communities directly benefit. In the village of Novake near Prizren yesterday, the Deputy Minister for Communities and Return, Mr. Enis Sulejmanović, together with the representatives of the local self-government, attended the technical reception for 4 new houses and one house in the village of Bogoševce, while today in the municipality of Gračanica, a technical reception was held for 6 houses.
"By building new houses, the Ministry for Communities and Return with its partners from the European Union strives to provide normal living conditions for all those who return to Kosovo, those who plan to return and those who have a strong will to live in Kosovo and do not have decent conditions. for life, "said the Deputy Minister for Communities and Return during the handover ceremony of the new houses.
Satisfied customers did not hide their satisfaction and gratitude after the technical acceptance of the houses. They say that the new home, after 20 years of uncertainty and despair, represents a glimmer of hope for a better tomorrow for them and their families, and they add that, all these years, they have not been able to provide a new home from their own income. Complete household furnishing and incentives for economic empowerment is something that new homeowners also receive.
These houses were built as part of the fifth phase of the "Return and Reintegration in Kosovo (EU RRC-5)" program, funded by the European Union Office, co-financed by the Ministry for Communities and Return, and implemented by the partner International Organization for Migration (IOM). In the next period, within the same project, the construction of new houses for returnees and internally displaced persons is planned in the municipalities of Peja, Klina, Istok, Obilic, Fushë Kosovë, Gracanica, Novo Brdo, Kamenica, Strpce, Prizren, Rahovec and Gjakova.
