Soon new apartments for residents of collective centers and socially endangered families
Pristina, September 24, 2020
This autumn will be especially important for the displaced persons who were accommodated in collective centers in the municipality of Štrpce, because new apartments will be completed for 86 families. The completion of works on five new buildings with a total of 110 apartments will be realized in the next three weeks, after which the technical acceptance and equipping of the apartments in full is expected. It is planned that the remaining 24 vacant housing units will be allocated to the most socially endangered families from Strpce.
Representatives of the Ministry of Communities and Returns, local self-government and the Danish Council for Refugees, who were entrusted with the realization of this complex project, visited the settlement where apartments for displaced persons were built on the territory of the municipality of Strpce.
"I am glad that we made buildings according to the highest architectural standards for those who had to leave their homes and who have been living in collective centers in inhumane conditions for 20 years. "I expect that after many delays, by the end of the year, we will finally close all collective centers in the municipality of Strpce and at the same time start the same projects in other municipalities," said the Minister of Communities and Returns, Dalibor Jevtic.
The first phase of the project entitled "Support to durable solutions for residents of collective centers in Kosovo", within which buildings were built in Strpce, was funded by the European Union and the Ministry of Communities and Returns. 169 users from five collective centers in Strpce are expected to move into their new apartments by the end of this year.
In addition to closing the collective centers in Strpce, families are planned to move into the completely renovated apartments of the collective center "Bergen" in the village of Ugljare in the municipality of Gracanica by the end of the year.
